100 Years

THE 100th CELEBRATION

On October 27, 2016, Empire Recycling held a celebration at Hotel Utica in downtown Utica, NY to commemorate 100 years in business. The hotel was constructed in 1912, just four years before Empire began, so the venue was a perfect fit. The event welcomed close to 200 people including friends, colleagues, government officials, vendors and of course family and dedicated, long-time employees.

For the occasion, president Steven Kowalsky dove into research and shared great family history, which was aided by large historical photos hanging from the mezzanine balcony. Vice President Ed Kowalsky reflected on 100 years and also acknowledged the many Empire employees that were present. And MC Leonard Wereszynski (a recently retired long-time employee of Empire) introduced many officials who presented proclamations to the brothers, marking this momentous milestone.

It was a wonderful evening celebrating Empire's longevity, commitment to the community and impact as an employer and one of the few businesses in the city to reach a century in business.
